Uber carparazzo Marchettino, king of the car spotter scene, managed to film a La Ferrari and an Enzo trading revs...inside a tunnel!
This was in Monaco so it's likely the same laFerrari we photographed there recently. Thing is, this REALLY needs the TaxTheRich treatment to make Axis happy.
but enjoy the tease.

The Gray

This is one of only five Ferrari Enzo ever produced in gray, never even seen a picture of one in the color.
As we have been discussing "top" cars it's interesting to look back at the previous bunch. The F60 Enzo was shocking when it was first shown ten years ago. It made few concessions to styling and was devoid of all creature comforts, like the F40 and F50 before it. It looked like no other car just a hardcore driving machine incorporating F1 technology.
We asked Harvey Stanley of renowned UK Ferrari specialist DK Engineering , about the market value of the F60 and how it compares with other similar cars, such as they were. Enzos are currently trading in the GBP 770K to 800K range, about $1.3M.
If you were one of the 399 chosen by Ferrari and allowed to buy one new it would have set you back around $650k in 2002, making them quite a good hedge against inflation.
By comparison, Carrera GT's trade GBP300K (much less in the US where they list in the mid $300K) and Mclaren SLRs have not held their value.
To be and F70 first owner you would probably need to be either Fernando Alonso or have owned an Enzo, and F50 and an F40 with probably a GTO thrown in there so the new generation car, Harvey tells us, has only sparked more interest in the Enzo, not a bad "plan B" for those not lucky enough to own an F70.
Should your "plan B" require it, DK Engineering has the gray and the red Enzos in these pictures as well as an F50 and, not one but three F40 in their inventory. The F50 trade in the 4 to 500K pound range while the F40s are in the 350 to 450K range.
Tell Mr. Harvey, Axis sent you!

I had to laugh, a German car show, "Grip", compared ten extreme road cars, you know you got your Enzo, your Veyron, your Gumpert, the weakest of these cars has 500hp. The winner? A viking TransAm with 1400HP, claiming to be the most powerful road legal car in the world and good for 256mph (412km/h).
The Turbo Kitt apparently cannot be driven more than a few miles without shredding its tires, now you know why the Veyron's tires cost $34000 a set. This TransAm had made the rounds on the internet a year or two ago but amazingly, Mr. Polly has managed to keep it alive, possibly by only driving it to David Hasselhoff conventions where he must recite these immortal lines:
Michael: What do you say we play a little 'hooky'?
KITT: 'Hooky?' I'm not familiar with that term.
Michael: Then allow me to educate you in one of life's finer pleasures!
KITT: Oh, that does feel good!
Michael : How 'bout a little turbo boost?
KITT: Dare we? Without sufficient reason?
Michael: Without sufficient reason' is the definition of hooky! Shall we, as they say, 'go for it?
KITT: Let's!
The clips are, of course, in german but you'll figure it out. (More after the jump)

So once again, same track (Imola) and a couple of hugely entertaining laps along what may have been a worried passenger. "Everything OK? please don't barf in the Enzo". Manuma commeted on his video below, maybe he'll chip in and tell us if there was any clean up involved.
By the way, that's a 400 km/h speedometer on the Enzo and it looks like he's reaching something like 260 km/h at the end of the front straight, that's 161mph....nice!
Listen to how squeaky and rattly the Enzo is, I kind of like that about it.

And here is the rest of it.

...the green hell that is.
Pardon the pun but this test runs rings around all others we have seen. This is how tests should be done: same time, same place, same driver, same amount of fuel and cars to factory spec. This is an Axis approved test.
Enzo Ferrari, Maserati MC12, Pagani Zonda R, Porsche Carrera GT and a Koeniggseg CCX, Supercar Movies and Black Falcon Performance really hit one out of the park.
The only improvement would be to have all the telemetry data available, perhaps in later episodes we will get that too. Below is the introduction and, after the jump, let's find out how the Enzo did on a timed lap around the Nürburgring.
(thank you Jay for the tip!)
Sorry but Supercarmovies.com objected to our direct use.... go see them on supercarmovies.com
Interesting about the shocks, whe we were at the Nürburgring, Dale Lomas told us the new M3 had similar issues, where dampners would overheat during the lap...
Can't wait for the next four episodes!

F131 Enzo Ferrari Owners manual

Just one day left before the official unveiling of Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa's new ride for 2008 and we are up to the latest Ferrari road legal supercar, the Enzo Ferrari.
So it still looks like a batmobile but with a better power to weight ratio and proper aerodynamics it finally succeeds where the F50 had failed and bested the Mclaren F1 in all but straight line performance. To Ferrari's credit there was not much given over to the styling department that was not wind tunnel approved. That multifunction display is still the coolest made.
The manual is now pretty much fully devoid of the exquisite technical detail seen in the 288 GTO manual and in the end your Enzo driving russian plutocrat is probably not going to miss any of it. In fact, considering used Enzo's sell used for almost twice what they cost new, chances are the cars get polished more than they get driven (with a some notable exceptions)... and when they do get driven, it seems like a good percentage of them get crashed by guys named Deitrich or Eddie.

Enzo Red

Technologically speaking, how can the average Hyundai be so much further along than a new $250,000 airplane? It's amazing, FAA-certified piston airplanes DON'T have electronic ignition, fuel injection (even the mechanical type), and DON'T usually come with LED or HID lighting, all standard items on even the most modest of cars.
But the Experimental category rules for light aircraft mean designers are free from dinosaurian constriction, and quite often Experimental builders head straight for the car world to find the most effective solutions for their flying machines.
Case in Point:
Today at AirVenture we looked at the new Super Sport gyrocopter prototype from Sportcopter in Utah.
First off, the designers went out of their way to secure real Ferrari F60 Enzo red paint for the SS (they told me it "wasn't easy"). Beyond that, this thing looks nothing like a prototype! As with the exterior, the interior is fully detailed, with inertial-reel seatbelts, tan leather upholstery, and perfectly fit instrumentation pods. The adjustable pedals are works of CNC art! The instrument panel and interior are lighted exclusively with LED technology, and dual HID landing lights can be installed if the builder prefers. Automotive racing coilsprings (with "dual rates") adorn the landing legs which contain cartridge struts like a nice German sedan, and urethane bushings control the racy lower A-arms, specially designed to maintain geometry throughout the range of travel (sound familiar?). A badass Ducati-style disc brake is used to slow the aluminum rotor after landing and the stainless steel brake lines appear to have been borrowed from a nearby SCCA paddock.
The kicker? The 100mph Super Sport is related to our own Adil in that it runs on a 190bhp Subaru 2.5L water cooled boxer engine. This readily-available, torquey, and reliable powerplant is the perfect dynamo to power this application, and the acquisition cost amounts to a fraction of a new aviation engine.
All-in, the Super Sport kit should run about $85,000 with the Subaru engine.

Some people have an Elise to drive at the track and then there are some people who have a slightly larger version they drive as if it were "just an Elise"!...

aside from the wow factor of the clip from our previously featured friend Manuma, what is immediately apparent is how well behaved the Enzo is at the limit. contrast that with the rawness and brutality of his "other" track car in the following clip!

Drifting a Ferrari Enzo

A word of explanation....It's winter here in the NorthEast...there are no track events, no autocross....so it's a frustrating time of year for the Axis. That's why I'm posting videos from other sources. But come spring, the production machine will get going again and we will post our own videos.
But no need to be bored right? So here is another Ferrari Enzo video from Italy. It's full hooligan driving mode on the Adria track near Venice. Tiff would be proud.
The driver is good and has great car control skills on the track. The second half of the clip where he slides in the parking lot shows you why it's a good idea that the Enzo has available traction control!
Enjoy

Let's go for a ride in a Ferrari Enzo...
by
AC
1 comment:

Let's be honest, the chances of any of us going to for a ride on one of the 400 Ferrari Enzo's made are pretty slim... the chances of going for a ride on one at a track event....slimmer. The chances of getting driven around very fast, passing all kinds of other Ferrari 360 by a GIRL???..... the odds are astronomical! So enjoy this 5 minute clip from Italy, the track is Imola, where the San Marino GP is held. True Ferrari enthusiasts drive the "F" out of their cars not let then sit in the garage. Kudos!
