2014 Spa 24 Hours Live Stream

No comments:

If the sounds of F1 have got you down, this week end you might check in with 66th running of the Blancpain Endurance Series Total 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps.

The race proper will start Saturday at 4:30 PM CET  10:30AM ET.   It will be streamed live HERE.

Kevin Estre was fastest in pre-qualifying

Parades, support races  and qualifying have already started.   Quickest in pre-Qualifying was the ART Grand Prix Mclaren  driven by Kevin Estre with a time of 2:20.944.    ART was not so happy about its other car which was destroyed by Alvaro Parente at Pouhon.  The team have said they will rebuild a car for the race.

Right behind the Mclaren was Italy's ROAL Motorsport BMW Z4 driven by Stefano Colombo, running in the Pro/Am class.

Top eight drivers were within 2/10ths thanks in part  to adjustments in the BoP index for this race which hopes to keep, Mclaren, Bentley, Ferrari, BMW, Mercedes Porsche Larborghini, Astons and Nissans all playing nice together.

the 2012 Total 24 Hours of Spa turned into a motorboat race for a while, whith predictable results...

Mclaren is making a big push in GT3 customer racing with two cars in the PRO category and seven in Pro-AM.

Oh and note to self,  don't touch the inside curb between Eau Rouge and Radillion!

In the end, Audi won another endurance race, congratulation.

Looks like the race was a major apocalypse for Mclaren. Maybe Leo Parente messed with their buttons!...

Pit Entry FAIL

The Blancpain-Ritter Lamborghini Gallardo driven by Nikolaus Mayr-Melnhof fails spectacularly at making the turn into pit lane during this year's 24 hours of Spa.

Mclaren MP4-12C Attack Spa 24 Hours.

I don't have to reming Axis readers about what happened first time Mclaren brought a modified version of their road car to a 24 hour race... This coming week end, three Mclaren MP4 GT3s will compete in the Ardennes classic. What enquiring minds want to know is just how modified, suspension and electronics wise, the GT3 version is over the read ca, a carr which has gotten a fair amount of criticism by some about its, shall we say, controlling dynamics.

In any case, the race car looks stunning and Mclaren is smart enough to know that a proper super car needs a racing pedigree not just fancy flaps (which it has), a fancy dash (check) and a name that slips off the tongue (Huayrawmpf)!

More pix and full press info after the jump.

TRIO OF MP4-12C GT3 RACE CARS TO STAR FOR McLAREN GT AT TOTAL 24 HOURS OF SPA

Ten drivers to compete in three MP4-12C GT3 race cars at Spa-Francorchamps on 30-31 July.

12C GT3 is the first race car converted from a McLaren road car to make a 24 hour race debut since the McLaren F1 GTR at Le Mans in 1995.

McLaren GT customer VonRyan Racing to manage third MP4-12C GT3 in Pro-Am Cup category.

McLaren GT returns to the Spa-Francorchamps circuit this weekend for Total 24 Hours of Spa, following a successful race debut there in the British GT Championship early in July. The second race in the MP4-12C GT3’s development programme will see ten experienced racing drivers pilot three cars in the 12C GT3’s first ever 24 hour race.

The McLaren GT driver line-up for the Total 24 Hours of Spa includes CRS Racing Team Principal Andrew Kirkaldy and McLaren Automotive Chief Test driver Chris Goodwin. Both are Directors of the new McLaren GT company, which is led by McLaren Group CEO Martin Whitmarsh and includes McLaren Racing Head of Vehicle Engineering Mark Williams.

McLaren GT is using the 2011 race season to develop the 12C GT3, with 20 cars due for delivery to privateer teams for GT3 series racing in 2012. Chris Goodwin said: “I was very happy with the performance of the 12C GT3 in its debut race at Spa. We secured an amazing pole position at the first attempt and importantly for future customers; the 12C GT3 was reliable, fast and easy to drive.

“I’m delighted with the quality of the drivers we have enlisted as we take the 12C GT3 to its first 24 hour race. This level of endurance racing is a crucial test for the car technically, and we need the best possible team working with us to ensure we receive intelligent, objective feedback on the 12C GT3 driving experience. We will use this feedback as we continue to develop the car in readiness for customers to go racing next year.

“We will be taking the opportunity at Spa to work with a future McLaren GT customer, VonRyan Racing. We want to develop close relationships with all our customer race teams and this experience will be valuable in developing our customer support programme for 2012 and beyond.”

Porsche wins the 24 Hour of Spa

No comments:

BMS Scuderia Italia, a team perhaps better know for running Ferraris in the past was the winner of the 2010 24 hours of Spa. Heartbreak for BMW who led for the over 23 hours with the three Dirk car of Müller, Werner and Adorf when a halfshaft failure forced the car first off road and then into the pits for repair and to third place on the podium.

BMW M3 at the 24 hours of Spa

1 comment:

Qualifying for the 2010 Total 24 Hours of Spa just ended, It will be Ferrari, BMW, Audi in the top three grid spots.

Curiously each manufacturer is in a good position to claim a class win: Ferrari is in GT2, Audi in GT3 and BMW runs in GTN which is for non FIA homologated cars.

What? Yes the M3 was homologated GT2 for LeMans under ACO rules and GT under ALMS rules but to run in FIA GT2 the team would need to run Michelin tires. Dunlop being a BMW technical partner there is a conflict and hence the GTN class.

You can download the qualifying results --->HERE

You saw the video, now check out these pictures, courtesy of an Axis reader on the scene at the mythical Belgian track during this year's 24 Hours of Spa...

A of O has a select but extremely cool readership from around the planet. Volker vom Brocke is a good example and he wanted to share these shots with all you tracktards.

Just take a look at the wear and tear on these cars, amazing indication of the realities of a 24 hour endurance race. The Aston and the Ferrari you see above are the cars in the clip below.

Check out Volker's complete slide show by going HERE.

In case you missed our previous post, here is the clip again. Onboards come after the highlights.
