2013 Seat Leon Cup
by

1 comment:
SEAT is the Spanish subsidiary of VW and their version of the Golf GTI, the Leon, has been doing touring car championship duties for years. Along with WTCC and ETCC, SEAT has its own single make championship, the Leon Cup and their latest car has got to be one of the hottest FWD racers ever, even considering our obvious bias towards orange accents!
1120 kg / 2470 lbs, two liter turbo rated at 330 hp and 350 Nm /258 ft/lb through the front wheels. Full FIA roll cage, and adjustable suspension, large 362 mm front disks with 6 piston caliper up front, the Leon Cup will also be available in an endurance racing version which will swap the 6 speed DSG for a sequential, the electronic LSD for a mechanical one and add a larger 60 liter fuel tank.
The Leon Cup will be priced starting at 70000 Euros with the Endurance version starting at 95000 Eu.

Anything can happen on the Nordschleife, check out the adventures of these Italian racers in a SEAT Leon Supercopa during a recent VLN practice session after the jump...
Clips below look all the same but I've broken up the start times: After you see what's described, just move on to the next clip.
Let's see...
First you have to dodge spinners...
... of course, you have to mind marshals and recovery trucks...
Then, this being the 'Ring, it starts to rain on the far side of the track from the pits...and you are, naturally, on slicks....
Then it starts to rain inside the car. Of course the sprinkle turns into a downpour just a mile further on and you lose all steering.
Then the window totally fogs up and you can't see a thing...
Lucky for you, your passenger has a stroke of genius!

Of course, if they are not running into each other, there is always the safety car to liven things up!

Call it the Patrese effect, SEAT had their WTCC driver Jordi Gene take his grandmother for a quick ride....

Real Cars, Real Racing that's the motto of the WTCC. OK maybe not exaclty the cars you can buy but close enough and of course tintop racing is where it's at when it comes to spectacle and entertainment.
France's Yvan Muller (SEAT) won this year from Italy's Gabriele Tarquini (SEAT) and Great Britain's Rubert Huff (Chevrolet). Seat won the constructor's cup over BMW and Chevrolet.

Seat vs BMW vs Chevrolet with a dash of Alfa Romeo for color, 2007 saw BMW clinch the championship at the last race in Macau with Andy Prioulx. Stefano D'Aste, also in a BMW, won the Independents Trophy.Enjoy the action, tin tops are always the best that way...Don't miss that scary flip Augusto Farfus had at the beginning of the season at Pau.

Tin Tops

BTCC, Brands Hatch short circuit, Front Wheel Drive vs Rear Wheel Drive, close calls and lots of rubbing and a race decided on the last lap, does not get much better.
