Formula 1 "Code Brown" moment

4 comments:
a blowout!

Pirelli will have to send Nico new undies for Christmas!   Mercedes was not amused.

Pirelli later explained with an "oops, our bad":

"PIRELLI: MERCEDES FITTED WITH PROTOTYPE TYRES WHICH WILL NOT BE PROPOSED AGAIN.  2014 DEVELOPMENT GOING ACCORDING TO PLAN
Milan, 19 December 2013 – The tyre tests in Barhain regarded a number of prototypes, which were completely innovative in terms of structure and compounds, with the aim of developing the most suitable solutions for the next season.
This morning Nico Rosberg’s Mercedes was fitted with one of these prototypes, a tyre which had only been tested in the laboratory and which will not be proposed again.
Thus, the safety of the tyres which will be supplied for the next Championship is not in question.
The accident which happened to Rosberg’s car is being investigated and the findings will be communicated to the FIA and the teams."

Green Hell Code Brown: Maybe The Luckiest Porsche GT2 RS Driver Ever.

17 comments:

Chances of NOT hitting anything after spinning on the right kink past Flugplatz must be minimal.  If we were at 180 km/h or so in a crappy rented Scirocco, this GT2 RS had to be going at least 230.   Bonus luck not getting t-boned by anyone coming around that blind-ish corner.

Good thing Curbstone Track Days are a full service event organizer and provide underwear laundering services on site.

Axis Glossary: "Cole Trickle" (v.)

7 comments:

Cole Trickle: (v.) To avoid a crash by the narrowest of margins. Example: "In today's video, Axis Pete takes his chances and successully Cole Trickles his way through the nastiest club racing crash we've seen in a long time."

Bonus Entry:
Pete Trickle: (n.) Mysterious, pot-bellied, little-known cousin of Cole who drives for Axis of Oversteer. Thought to be intimately familiar with Dick Trickle.

So you get the idea.

Speaking of Schwedenkreuz...

Check out this video Tim Hutton from Road Magazine sent us.

What I keep wondering is, would that track be scarier when full wet or when it's like in this video, where you don't really know how much water is around the next blind crest?

In a similar situation, when we were just there, a very nice looking Mercedes CLK 6.3 Black ping-ponged between the guard rails for over 300m between Qiddlebacher- Höhe and Flugplatz...
