Vintage Nostalgia

This past week end's events left you hankering for a time when Formula 1 was supposedly more pure and sporting?
...Well, it never really was that but for sure, balls swung a lot lower all around back then, as confirmed by James Hunt.

Don't forget to keep an eye out for Flat Out, the new series coming from out friends at Mito Media.

Spectacle-lovers can take their agendas and block the 20th of February 2010: a new edition of the Legend Boucles de Spa®.
The last few years the interest in the “Legend” formula of the Boucles de Spa has only increased. The overall presence of the public on “La Clémentine” or “La Redoute” is just proving that the ‘veteran’-version of the rally is appealing.
A never ending entry-list with some big names on it, cars that offer more and more quality, a mixed and overall present public, in brief, the Legend Boucles de Spa have everything to grow pale organisors of big sportevents .
For those who assisted the heroic duels years ago, these Legend Boucles de Spa just bring back the emotions only the best memories can call back. For the younger ones it’s a unique chance to really feel the authentetic past.
Tradition and nostalgy are the key words in the succes of this rally.
But, above all and despite the increasing popularity, the access to the regularity-trails is free!
This year we’re waiting impatiently for some extraterrestrial achievements from some of the big names in the motorracing world on the notorious and (let’s hope) white roads.
The “Legend Boucles de Spa” formula is still looking forward to some more successfull years.
But, we’re not resting on our laurels, the 2010 edition will be better then ever…”

Sideways, old school

I found what might be one of the most awful racing film/documentaries ever, essentially a Roger Corman level exploitation flick from 1978 Italy called: "Febbre della Velocitá", Speed Fever.  It's god awful with interviews conducted by ex-pat hottie of the time Sydne Rome and some truly gory slow motion shots of the horrible accidents of that time with some graphic footage I had never seen before. However, mixed in with all that are some wonderful shots of period racing and I thought I might dole out some clips of the best moments here and there and spare everyone the pain, among other things, of seeing both Niki Lauda acting and Gene Hackman dubbed in Italian....

I'm going to start at random, the films covers a bit of everything including rally and I think we discussed before how WRC should just be RWD only.  OK, I know Gigi Galli can do this just as well with a WRC Ford Focus yet, there is an awesomeness to this, perhaps it's the tires on fire commitment of the Opel driver (I cannot identify), maybe it's the sight of the navigator hanging on the grab handle, maybe its just that it just the ultimate Scandinavian Flick. The mid engine Statos following is obviously a better car but the guy in yellow is just way more spectacular.

Anyway, I think you might enjoy it as much as I did..

How about some 1970's/80's racing action from the Nürburgring? You got to love the slip angle on those Renault 5s!

Anyone want to take a crack at naming some of the cars in this video?

Rare Vintage

No comments:

Ralph Lauren is a mega successful fashion industry icon but he is also one of the world's major car collectors, his taste in mechanical art as impeccable as his Purple Label suits. The man owns a Bugatti Atlantique and a brace of Mclaren F1s including an LM...and that's not even getting into the Ferraris, need one say more?

So set up your DVR's to record this new show on Discovery tomorrow at 8PM. Looks pornographically good.

To complete the Car/Fashion connection, I was alerted to this show by my very patient wife. She owns a fantastic vintage clothing boutique called RARE VINTAGE and if any of you track rats need to be seriously forgiven by your better half, I suggest you take a good look at her awesome collection. She will have to say yes!
