Bavarian Concerto M88, second movement, andante moderato.

A very nice in car High Definition camera setup in this BMW M1 Procar. I recommend turning up the volume and hitting the "full screen" button on the lower right.

The M88 still produces one of the best engine notes ever, even when not pushed to the max. It just never gets old.

BMW Procars at Hockenheim

As you may remember reading about here, there was a BMW M1 Procar demonstration before the German Grand Prix this past week end. The first timeProcars have run during a Formula 1 week end since the glory days of Piquet, Senna and Lauda.

Perhaps it was more like quick parade laps but it must have been fantastic to hear all those straight sixes at full song in one place again. Imagine how cool it would be to have today's drivers going at it in equal cars?

Procar's Return

Formula 1 announced that the awesome BMW M1 Procars will once again run before a Grand Prix. No, you will not see Hamilton, Raikkonenen and Massa banging side mirrors, but no matter because sights and sounds should be glorious. Let's see a preview...

We have covered M1's before (you can find many more clips in our archives HERE) but any excuse is a good one to hear more of that glorious Paul Roche designed M88 motor.

There will be ten cars at the German event. Among them and possibly the most valuable Procar of all, is one painted by Andy Warhol for BMW's collection. It will be co driven by Jochen Neerpasch, racer and head or BMW motorsports at the time and Frank Stella, the American painter who created my personal favorite BMW art car, the graph paper 3.0 CSL!

Please, it's important....do turn up the volume and enjoy the sounds.

For those of you who had enjoyed our earlier post about music from the 12 piece Bavarian Symphony, here is a more intimate piece for 6 combustion chambers again conducted by herr Rosche.




Perhaps the readers can help out here: love the sound but the driving is ...err, driving me nuts! Why is he not rev matching on the downshifts and how is it not upsetting the car? I was wondering the same thing about the car in the video in this previous post, but that car at least has a sequential transmission. Perhaps I'm missing some crucial info about the workings of these cars, can anyone help out there?
