Lamborghini made Chris Harris eat his words.

20 comments:

Celebrity auto journalist extraordinaire Chris Harris was pretty smug towards Lamborghini at the Geneva Auto Show earlier this year:

You can't argue with Harris' second point. Fair to say the vast majority of Lambos are owned by a very specific type. But then, you could make that argument with any supercar couldn't you?

For every Manuma there are a thousand Lambo kids and whole publications are dedicated to Supercar fail schadenfreude.

But the inherent understeer thing? I think the video of a new Aventador lapping the ring sub-7 minutes  clearly calls bull on that.

If your Lambo understeers it's probably due to the sheer weight of all the gold chains messing with the balance.   Remove gold,  get a proper alignment and this becomes possible:

You want a more detailed analysis of the Lambo's lap? Head over to BTG and read it from the local experts.

The Dilemma: Chris Harris Takes On The Porsche 991 GT3

11 comments:

Everything you wanted to know about the new Porsche GT3,  PistonHead Chris Harris puts a GT3 through its paces.

The nail in tthe manual transmission's coffin?  Harris has an existential moment,  decides best cure is hooning the GT3.  We agree with that.

Here's a Ferrari 458 NOT driven like an idiot.

12 comments:

A beautifully driven, bone stock Ferrari 458 driven around Monza, topping out at around 180 mph on a track where mistakes cost dearly.

It will never get the monumental number of views the Chris Harris video did clowning around on a mickey mouse track but at least this driver did not have to borrow the car or lie stretch the truth to "tell a story" for ratings.

 Et tu Monkey?

Bravo Phantom!

More Grip ≠ More Fun

No comments:
The Korean GP was a dull race on a horrid track, for something much more fun check out Chris Harris along with Richard and Andrew Frankel racing not one but two fantastic old cars on a fantastic old track.

You got to love the UK....

A country with the most draconian speed camera enforced traffic laws that allows cars like the BAC Mono to be road legal.  British sense of humor.

Huayra Monkey

4 comments:

Be honest, would you rather spend $1.4 M on this rolling sculpture built in gorgeous factory in Emilia-Romagna or $1 M on a re-bodied Elise with a pushrod engine built in a shady Texas garage?

Surprised Harris can't think of another 730HP two wheel drive car though. Really? He could probably see one from where he filmed this clip!

You can follow Chris HArris on twitter @harrismonkey and read more about the Huayra at PistonHeads

Chris Harris is the John Holmes of Car Porn

5 comments:

Twenty minutes of luscious smoke filled beautiful pictures with three special cars grunting and groaning for the camera.

As far as content, a bit of a foregone conclusion after all, Harris owns the $208000 GT3 RS 4.0, by far the most expensive car in the bunch ( car journalism pays very well!).

As far as the lap times in the video, take them with a grain of salt. There is no info on tires, the GTS in on Pirellis Corsa and the GT3 RS likely on Michelin PSC, the Merc, maybe Continental Sport Contact?

I wish these guys would get on board with Traqmate, I would love to see an lap comparison animation to see where each car did what. That would be awesome but of course smoke works better on youtube and you can certainly just relax and enjoy the porn!

the 2012 Porsche 991 bests the 997 GT3 RS..

Axis approved reviewer at work: According to Chris Harris, the new 991 Carrera S is better than the 997 GT3 RS,. All you Porschistas immediately sell your crappy old outdated 997 GT3's to me for cheap!

Harris laps Sebring

13 comments:
Scratch off a bunch of HP...Harris got in touch and said it was actually a GT3 RS not a 2 RS...

Looks like Chris Harris gets to have fun on a global scale. He was tweeting recently about being in the States and going to Sebring... here he is lapping a Porsche 997 GT2 GT3 RS. Sadly the audio is WAY out of sync but he does a lap at around 2:24 if I'm not mistaken...

Not bad but AXisCG lapped in 2:22 with an I stock Cayman S with half the horsepower... :)

Harris monkeys with the McLaren Mp4-12c

7 comments:

Nice review, missing one obvious question from our tracktard point of view: in the rain we would have put the engine to "track" but the suspension on "soft", can you do that on the. 12c?? I certainly hope the answer is yes...

But what I'm guessing is that keeping it in stiff mode in the wet is the only way to get some photo friendly slides going in this, the only super car I'm aware of with an open differential, a car not even Lewis Hamilton can slide properly as the video after the jump suggests...

What did they put in Chris Harris' Tortellini?

33 comments:

I'm guessing you read his anti Ferrari rant on Jalopnik by now. More than the "revelation" manufacturers serve up cheater cars and seek to influence the outcome of tests would be to know what pushed @Harrismonkey over the edge.

In any case, can we put a plug in for reviews like our shoot out between the Scud and the GT2? If we were able to do it, certainly real journalists could give it a shot more often!

Don't miss the comments below, some funny stuff there!

Chris Harris does a take on the BMW 1 series M

I think he gets it mostly right. Me, I would rather have the extra camber in the front, not so much the back but hey...so I don't like understeer, sue me!

The "stock" 997 GT3 RS at the 'Ring

2 comments:
This is the 997 GT3 RS street car that Porsche is racing at the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring in May and that had it's debut at the VLN race last week. At that race the car finished and placed 22nd overall.

It's not quite stock, it has different springs and has a re-calibrated traction control and obviously a cage and no passenger seat

Driving in the video is "Uncle" Walter Röhrl driving. Hi co-drivers will be Nürburgring specialist Horst Von Saurma and journalist Chris Harris from EVO.
