What does it feel like to drive Mount Panorama?

No comments:

Sadly, I can't tell you from personal experience but there is nothing like a properly mounted helmet camera to put you in the driver's seat.

You are riding with Christopher Mies in and Audi R8 LMS during the 2016 Liquid Moly Bathurst 12 Hour week end.  Turn up the volume.

The ideal placement for a POV camera is as close to eye level and as centered as possible but, unfortunately, there are no perfect mounting solutions out there at the moment.   There are accessories for other positions but, mounting the camera on the side of the helmet doesn't look right, on top is too high and on the chin bar,  too low.

The best spot for a POV camera is on top of the visor in the middle.    Marshall Pruett came up with this placement and method, aided by abundant gaffer's tape to produce the great POV videos that occasionally appear on Racer's web site.

Incredibly, nobody has yet stepped up with a proper mount for this location without having a big contraption sticking out from your helmet.
I've used a modified version of Marshall's mounting technique involving 3M Dual Lock tape and the GoPro upside down to line up the lens  even more.   Obviously this is particular setup is adapter for a closed car where you might keep your visor open and not ideal if you need to close it.

Perhaps someone out there knows of a better way or might like to step up and design something that will work better because this IS the sweet spot for in car POV shots.

Traqmate Traqdash Full Color Display

It's what I want for Christmas: this new display from Traqmate is compatible with your existing sensor unit and uses a touchscreen, iPhone style interface. Lap times, Shift lights, assignable gauges, Warning lights, predictive lap timing, but also text input which allows setting up the unit without the need for a computer.

UPDATE: After some sensible comment from you guys, I checked in with Traqmate to see how they solved the issue of a touchscreen device which would be operated with gloves.
As I imagined, being track guys, they had that taken care of: the screen does not work with finger contact, like the iPhone but rather is made to work with pressure. So using gloves is not an issue.

Along with the Traqdash display, Traqmate announced integration with Racecam HD. An HD update of the well known specialized motorsport camera, the RaceCam HD features 1080p video, a built in screen and external mic input all wrapped in a tough aluminum case. It will be able to be started and synced from the Traqmate.

The TraqDash display will be priced at $799.00 while the RaceCam HD will be $1499.00 (more after jump)

500mph and not that far off the ground.

OK, this is a car blog but we are motorheads and this is after all the fastest racing on the planet.... and BadBadM just goes nutty for it.
I found this clip when I was shopping around for remote cameras to use at the track. I found Xtreme Recall and some excellent videos they feature on their web site.

The best are the aircraft ones, aside from the clip below, make sure you check out the T-6 racing (a spec race series I gather) and the especially freaky
Dead Stick Landing.

I expect BadBAdM will be able to identify every single one of those planes and pilots, and of course provide Andres the phone number of the chick in the freeze-frame!
