Determination...or Darwin?

Let me set the scene: France, Rallye de Serrians, a Renault... The driver takes to the course...he bounces off the rev limiter, the navigator honks his ludicrous horn...more rev limiter abuse then, disaster. The car is dead by the side of the road.

What happens next is the stuff of legend, check it out. After the jump, pictures and the explanation.

A mere snapped throttle cable was not going to hold this road warrior back... I mean, sitting on top of the engine operating the throttle while your navigator drives does not make perfect sense to you?

  3. I glued my eyes to the screen and overcooked the pasta but it was totally worth it :-) Incredible determination.

Reminds me of a story I heard years ago about a woman despatched to the front trunk/boot of the rear engined Skoda 120 by her husband to take care of a loose wipers contact in the pouring rain.

  7. My God that was full of WIN. It also got a greenlight on Fark, so expect a lot of traffic.

  8. Would they be disqualified? I mean, the rules require full roll cage, helmets, nomex, six point harnesses, full integrated fire extinguisher system and there he is, in the engine bay, while driving on a live course.

    :O

  10. pardon my ignorance, What does a green light on Fark mean?

    We're Farked?

  11. Greenlighted on Fark means that this page is linked from Fark.com, specifically on http://www.fark.com/sports/

  15. um... why didn't they just use a string or something attached to the throttle, then run it under the hood and into the window... i've done it before and so has a friend... much easier...

  21. dedication...yes.
    stupidity...yes.
not something i would try though, we all know what can happen during a race. luckily there was no wreck, that would have been interesting.
but good job and keep racing!!!

  22. Just goes to show that sometimes there is a very fine line between candidates for the MacGuyver Awards and for the Darwin Awards.

  23. Hahaha! That's what you call determination! I did not see that one coming!

  24. I thought it was funny that the driver took the time to buckle up his seat belt.

  25. determination? more like stupidity. probably 2 low life mechanics who have no brains to figure out what they're doing.
