NissanConnect Nismo Plus will make your reality virtual

2 comments:

Nismo has announced its NissanConnect NISMO Plus software which will take data logged on your real Nissan GT-R and recreate a virtual version of your actual driving in Gran Turismo 6 on the Playstation.

While we would imagine this must be limited to tracks available in the game, it's amazing how "consumer level" systems are catching up to the most sophisticated simulations available only to the very top of motorsport.

Aussie Attractions
Busy week end of racing this one, 12 hours of Sebring on this side of the world, , Formula 1 and V8 Supercars on the other.

The Clipsall 500 in Adelaide was the debut for the V8 Supercar "Car of the Future".   Moving to something between DTM and FIA GTE, V8 Supercars have dropped their live axles and gained two new manufacturers with the addition of Mercedes and Nissan. The Merc, with it's awesome sounding flat plane crank V8 is a crowd favorite already.

Here are some race highlights

If you want more, check out those amazing V8 Supercar shocks working the high curbs.

The Down Shift.

Somehow Motor Trend's YouTube channel had totally escaped me. My bad because this one, 2011 Best Driver's car, is a lot of fun.

Loved the part where they stand next to different corners at Laguna Seca though I wish they had delivered on video their promise to see how the different cars behaved. Liked the insight into the thought process involved and having Justin Bell's pro driver perspective vs Jonny Lieberman's pro journalist one.

I think you can all figure out ahead of time who the winner turned out to be but still, well worth your time if like me you had missed it.

FIA GT1: Manufacturer's World Championship

12 comments:
Seems hard to believe now but there was a time when sports car racing was more advanced and more popular than Formula 1. In the late 60s, early 70s, at the time of prototype racing, it was the epic war between Ferrari, Porsche and Ford that kept people riveted. Inevitably with the growing importance of television, endurance racing did not fit the bill and faded away.

Back to the future, for 2010 the FIA has recognized the GT1 series as a "world" championship and the format has been changed from endurance to sprints, albeit with a mandatory driver and tire change. Ford, Maserati, Nissan, Aston Martin, Lamborghini and GM will each field four cars in GT1. GT2 and GT3 will remain as "local" European championships with BMW, Porsche, Ferrari, Ascari, Audi continuing to slug it out there.

Here is the video from the official launch in Paris, I recognize Tiff Needell there, but was that Eric Clapton at the beginning?
At the end of the clip you can see the cars in action, testing at Paul Ricard.

Politically Incorrect Commercial Film Festival

Unconstrained by an easily offended public, car companies have commissioned all manner of creative work for markets outside the US.   From Nissan's artistic stuntman Joe Zakopane to Maserati's mysterious soft core to Peugeot's humping bugs these are some of funniest and most bizarre clips you will never see on your American TV.

We'll start with Poland's most famous stuntman, you'll find the rest after the jump.
