How Kool is Kimi?

Sure he's getting 17 Million NOT to drive but still, how many would walk out of F1 over the number of promotional appearance obligations and a rallying clause?

Guess Mclaren was so 2006, party on Kimster!

  2. As a fan of the iceman, I am quite saddened by the news. Although I am excited to see him try out different forms of motor sport, I kind of wish he stuck around to crack some skulls in F1. Hopefully after his sabbatical he comes back and kicks some ass.

now... who to follow in F1?

I was a fan in the early days but falling asleep in the car really says something about your comittment (or lack therof) If I fell asleep on the job I get fired.... can anyone remind me of any pass hes made in the last year that was memorable? give him his money and let him go ruin rally racing.... he'll be fat in five years.....

  4. I don't know . . . f1trey may not be paying close enough attention. In all fairness, Ferrari never gave Kimi the car nor support that Schumi enjoyed . . . or commanded. I also question how he could've possibly swung the team's focus away from Massa, who is basically family at Maranello.

Sure, one can contend that he's not the greatest source of constructive feedback for any engineer, but the F60 must have been one of the most difficult cars on the grid this season.

I don't agree that his days are over . . . but I also don't suggest that his talent alone will bring WRC success without a serious multi year commitment.

  5. Kimi a crybaby?? Massa, Alonso, Barrichello are crybabies. Kimi just mumbles, then gets on with driving.

Lazy? doin PR work yes, but behind the wheel he works at it, and does it well.

  6. Crybaby?!? LOL

I can't recall a single such moment that he has ever uttered or mumbled.

F1 will be a lesser place without him

  7. Kimi was an interesting character, much more so than Lewis Hamilton or these other corporate drivers who had their hand held all the way to F1.

  8. You could say many things about Raikkonen but "whiner" is definitively not one of them! Quite the contrary.

  9. Kimi is a prime example of what is wrong with just about all forms of professional sports in today's world. Most who get involved do so for love of the game. When Kimi started out his heart was in it and he was happy and he drove like a madman with icewater in his veins. I'll never forget when he kept his foot into it driving up EnRouge into a *wall* of white clouds left by Jaun Pablo Montoya's Williams; not knowing if there was a car or debris sitting in the middle of the track, he said, "if I was going to hit something, it was going to happen so it did not matter if I lifted or not..." *That's the Iceman* Inevitably, he got caught up in the politics and money and it was no longer fun and that's when his game began to fade. Sure, throw millions at anyone and they'll take it, but that's not why he entered F1. His talent is still a good as ever, it's his heart that's not in it and no amount of money will change that. My only hope is that being away will remind him of what he loves about the sport and bring him back hungry and having fun. Oh and as far as the falling asleep thing, let's not forget he had to be awoken in the motorhome 10 minutes before the start of his *first ever* F1 race... Yes... he's just *that* cool. The Iceman!

  10. Kimi turned into a huge prick who did it for the money. Not interested in being even mildly friendly to the fans who make the sport profitable or the press who help keep his stock high.

Evidence of a spoiled baby. If Ferrari is willing to pay millions just to get rid of him a year earlier, what does that tell you about his attitude?

  11. @ anonymous :
While I dont think the two videos have any damning evidence against Kimi , remember the Montoya camera man incident? In all fairness Kimi did re-direct the irresponsible mum back to her kid!

Though I do agree, you must have pissed a team enough for them to pay you 17 million to fuck off!

@ AC : Great picture of Kimi! this makes me crack up every time I land on your blog :D

  12. The first video . . . point your finger at the mother, not Raikkonen. It is the mother who charges toward him with total disregard for her own child, squeezing the gap. To suggest that Raikkonen has no regard for the child is absurd. Ever considered the fact that in such a situation public figures do not have the benefit of knowing who these nutcases are? How do you know . . . had he returned to the child . . . that the mother would not have tried to sue him?

The second video: Cahier, although a great photographer, makes his living exploiting these drivers when they are preparing for battle. Yes, Raikkonen could have avoided pushing him but we don't know the history between these two . . . and the video does not show Cahier's lens making contact with Raikkonen's helmet when he bent over.

  13. Jim, If you're involved in a bump that knocks a child to the ground and makes it cry loudly, a normal person with morals would stop to make sure the child is at least allright. Stop pretending it makes him a clever lawsuit avoider, it just makes him a coward who cares about no one but himself.

Only in F1 is it thought to be defensible to push someone to the ground for accidentally tapping your helmet with their camera which they're using to get you more exposure/fans/popularity.

  14. I think those two videos are completely meaningless incidents...Best Kimi video remains this one "Kimi did you catch the presentation by Pele?
