Bavarian Jake makes the news...

You might remember this inexplicably Jake badged BMW M3 featured on our pages... Apparently Mr. Epic Baller made the news when his first ever race in a Corvette ZR1 ended abruptly about 10 minutes in and is now splashed on the pages of Jalopnik...

Our own The Dough, T-Neck and Eddie were at Watkins Glen and sent us these observations:

"Remember the winner who built up his e90 coupe and turned it into a racecar? Well, he owned a ZR1 as well and decided to turn that into a race car too. After a few sessions in the instructor group over the weekend (where he ran around passing with no point), he put it into the wall ... (T Neck called it). What a shame. "

No doubt Mr. Sobolewski will return with a matte black, Jake decal-led, Ferrari Enzo at the very least!

  2. I think the moral of that story is.."you can buy speed, but not talent or common sense."

  3. well, I personally wasn't there so I don't know why precisely he had this argument with physics....

  4. That is how people get hurt on the racetrack. What a tool!
But what great track toys he has.

  5. I think it's Mr. Soebelski. At least that's what Jalopnik has.

  6. Jalopnik has it wrong unless the guy spelled his own name wrong on his own car... :)

  7. I was fortunate enough to witness that crash, pretty cool stuff to see a ZR1 get stuffed into a wall. He doesn't seem like a bad guy though, sponsored a bbq at the track the night before along with two kegs :)

  8. He might be a nice guy and free beer goes along way. However, he sould get himself into a really shinny Miata, spec e30, or first gen RX7.

One of my favorite poker strategies. Improve my odds without improving my game: get them drunk! (or hangover in this case)... good idea, badly executed I have to say ;-)

  10. I was there as well and I suspect he was anxious at the start since we got waved off first two times around and then he ended it for everyone 3-4 hot laps into the race. Video shows clearly it was destiny......bbq and beer were top notch though.

20+ ft off of many apexes. Never gets any where near the apex of the toe of the boot.

Incident in question happens around 8:45...

  13. He's a good guy; just needs more seat time. The car will be repaired by NJMP Halloween weekend and he will have additional training/instruction by then to go with it. Expensive lesson
