Lewis Hamilton winning friends and influencing people in Vegas

Lewis Hamilton celebrated his birthday in Las Vegas lest week at a club called Light.   CES in full swing, Will. i. am in the DJ booth, Nicole and entourage by his side the 2014 F1 Champ was called out on stage, his name in blazing lights.

A good opportunity to make some new fans, especially since we are told not many in the crowd seemed to know who Lewis is.   Hamilton is trying to figure out how to jumpstart his music career amidst rumors he's being mentored by Drake.

Sounds like a fun evening except not for one F1 fan who did recognize him when Hamilton and his entourage were standing next to his table.   The fan asked one of Hamilton's "people" if he could say hello and congratulate him on his win but was told "Lewis is not talking to anyone tonight".

This person snapped a few pictures and tried to explain he was a big fan at which point, according to him, someone from the group slapped the phone out of his hand.  A large bodyguard then threatened to "put him to sleep" if he did not leave the club, something he refused to do since he was at a paid table.  His phone was confiscated by Hamilton's people and only returned twenty minutes later.
Hamilton, at arm's length away during all this,  never seem to acknowledge what happened.

So the owner of phone sent us the pictures and the story.  Later I spoke to him on the phone and he did not strike me as some psycho fan, just a guy who's followed F1 for many years.

It's hard in these cases, Hamilton is a celebrity, though in Vegas that night there were few people who knew who he was.   Celebrities and sports figures are certainly entitled to their privacy though perhaps hanging in the middle of a packed club is bound to invite interactions with people.    Pros who are good at it, know how to make fans happy with a smile and a few words,  others don't want to be bothered.

Most likely Hamilton could care less he lost a fan on his birthday.

  1. Couldn't care less. Sorry to nitpick but that's a pet peeve of mine. Good post otherwise. I'm a hammy fan but sometimes he seems so terribly self absorbed.

  3. I think Lewis is really torn, culturally torn. In once sense he was raised proper by him Mom and the time with his Dad was spent around racing circuits, karting etc. His new found fame has brought him some new found friends, or put more accurately, new found freeloaders. His problem is, someone somewhere put the idea in his head that he can be a commercially viable music hip-pop star. Lewis needs to win a couple of more world titles and he needs a big turbo boost in the charisma department if he's gonna make it as a musical act. He needs to stay focused on his bread-and-butter. There's nothing on earth that can even compare to being a Formula 1 driver, and Lewis is a double world champion. Imagine if in the 1980's Ayrton Senna had frittered away his F1 career just so that he could hopefully one day be the lead singer of A Flock of Seagulls!!!! So Lewis, if you're out there buddy, GET FOCUSED - go home - shag Nicole - wake up tomorrow refreshed - hit the gym - and get prepared for 2015 - AND YOUR THIRD WORLD TITLE!!!

  4. If anything, sounds like a paid celebrity appearance...."celebrate birthday" here meaning "make some extra cash." And of course if you're just doing the work, might as well have the thug bubble to insulate you from the bottle service masses.

  7. Brilliant natural talent and possibly the most manufactured personality in all of F1. Hamilton was far more likable before Nicole and XIX Entertainment.

  10. Does he really need bodyguards, most people don't even know who or what he does in the US, immature guy with some money in his pocket for now...see what happens in 20 years.

He should of been happy Simone recognized him and been more accommodating especially being a F1 fan.

  11. I'd rather listen to Jacque Villeneuve than Hamilton. I wonder if they even make a helmet big enough to fit Hamilton's head.

In the mean time, Nico is in the simulator.
