The sheer insanity of this car alone is worth your time watching the clip from DRIVE. That and the fact that, being a Lotus, will probably explode again tomorrow.
Maybe, but surely not the worlds fastest car in the Santa Monica Mountains.
The owner of this car bills himself as a "canyon only" driver because he thinks racing circuits aren't challenging enough. I agree. Having said that, I went ahead and timed him on a particular set of good corners on a road I am very familiar with. The results?
His average speed was 51.8mph. Keep in mind this is a 700bhp, 2100lb mid engine lotus on Kumho V710s.
6 years ago when I raced a stock engine volvo 850 with medium suspension modifications (on grippy street tires) I was averaging 49.5mph through the same set.
The car is awesome, but for canyon roads it's completely over engineered. If I have some time I'll get a go pro and attach it to a stock 335i and give you guys a run through the same set for reference.
Mulholland is the new place to be a poser. This guy is the perfect example of money > brains > skill...
So you were the guy in the 850 Estate right? I wish i pulled over after chasing you down. I saw the aftermarket sway bar peaking out the back and thought it was an interesting combination. I have an msm, what section of road did you test maybe ill add my time to your test.
That was me Anthony. The car had stock springs and bilstien shocks, aftermarket sway bars that were non adjustable. We would run it on R-Compound tires with some shitty American Racing wheels so no one was the wiser.
My claim to fame in that car is out pacing a guy in a 911 turbo one night. When we got onto the freeway he pulled up next to me and I'll never forget the look he gave me. No one expects an 850 Volvo to be going through turns in the mountains at 90mph kicking the ass end out under braking without crossing the double yellow.
I never really timed myself in the Miata, but in the Volvo I could clear decker canyon (starting at the light in westlake) to the beach (car would come to a dead stop on PCH) in about 8 minutes and 15 seconds with a top speed of 95mph.
The Miata was easily a half minute or more quicker. I would guestimate from The potrero light to PCH was about 7 minutes 25 seconds.

Roger that AC. I was reading on one of the lotus forums this guy has been through 3 engines and something like 4 or 5 transmissions.
I also like the claim of 0-60 in under 2 seconds aha...yeaaahhhhh...
For the money he probably invested in this impractical garbage I would have done an Ultima GTR with a reliable LS in the back. Done deal, reliable, and more sensible.
Must be nice to blow money on stupid shit though...
The reason I posted this is just to celebrate the insanity of it. Yeah, anyone who says circuits are boring so they have to go do open canyons...well they should just man up and go do tarmac rallies. but that's another ball of was. 0-60 in under 2 seconds? show me.
OH and notice they did not show Farrah getting in sand out of the car? I've seen big guys feet out of Exiges before, it's not a pretty sight LOL
Rear ended? An eye witness I spoke to says Frank turned in on the Porsche. A few weeks ago he took his yacht out in the middle of the night and it magically catches fire but he escapes unharmed. He claimed the Lotus as totaled yet he is using the engine and suspension parts for his new creation...doesn't that strike you as odd?
He says he never crosses over the double yellow line, but watch this video where he does it twice (1:56) and a few moments later:

His throttle control is horrible and he apexes incorrectly in almost every set of turns. Frank says no one can keep up with him in the canyons though? Anthony we went faster than this guy in my Volvo.
Frank is nothing but a joke to anyone who has done their research. What a tool...
yeah well, when i cruise I late apex pretty much all those corners. As its smoother, more comfortable and easier should someone want to hand hold a camera which would get heavy really quick. I will say its got power, but I know if i want to go faster i only need to look in the mirror. Zero pm me on http://www.mazda-speed.com if you get a chance.

World's Fastest Lotus? Kimi and Romain beg to differ.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it blows up more like Heidfeld's...:)

I'm sure a stock 2-Eleven or forthcoming (possibly) V6 Exige would be quicker. The suspension looks massively underdamped on that thing.

Now THIS is a canyon car I could get used to...
