Watch a 180 mph blowout on the Daytona banking

CG's TRG teammate Dr. Jim Norman had a butt clenching moment on the Daytona banks when a rear right tire let go at 180 miles per hour.

The resulting 1440 ended as well as one could hope, only a change of underwear was needed presumably. Nice one Dr.Jim!

Dr. Jim ended up in Pit lane facing the right direction...just like CG did at Road America...must be a TRG thing!

(thanks Spencer Pumpelly and CG)

Here is the view from that historic liveried 911 you see Jim passing right before the blowout. Yup, the one with the classic 911 lift off oversteer!

  3. CG, we did the same thing you did at RA.

That view from the chasing car is from my camera...

  4. Juan, is that your windshield gasket blowing off?

  5. Why did the windshield come out of the yellow 911 when he spun? That's pretty dangerous!

  6. Actually, no. The lack of a window will can prevent the car from taking off... not that it's going fast enough to but still....

  7. I dont' care about aero, there's a damn windshield and gasket on track! Obviously the car it came out of isn't affected but cars traveling at high speed or even slowing down have the real chance of hitting something that should never have come off that car.

  8. Also, the Road America link goes to Road Atlanta where CG hit the gravel trap. FYI.

  9. Right, and ended up in pit lane, just like Dr.Jim. We might need to make a special t shirt to commemorate that technique!

  12. To get a good look at the drivers' face, now that is a video angle to watch, eh heh. Just sitting there, wondering when the car will hit the wall, flashes of 'how many cars are behind me?' and the inevitable 'god, I know I've denied a lot of things in the past, but right now...'

And then, ' I wonder if I can just roll to my pit and change tires?'
