Seeing the BMW 1M pitted against the Cayman R is not exactly new and while that comparison still makes little sense to us (we think there is zero chance a Cayman buyer would say, you know what, I'll choose the 1M instead, and vice versa) we do love watching them burn some tires. So the new issue of CAR gets a free plug!
I wouldn't go so far as to say "zero chance." I ordered a CR to replace my 135 coupe, and I would've seriously considered a 1M if one had been readily available and subject to discount. Same with TTRS.
The 1M and CR are certainly very different cars in layout and style, but I think they both appeal to enthusiastic drivers in very different ways. 1M has the fat torque curve (which I love in the 135), whereas CR has delicacy and balance. Also, 1M is a great only car (4 seats, decent trunk, pass-through), whereas a CR would get impractical quickly.

I am the only one that is getting tired of seeing people driving sideways?
ReplyDeleteI know it's fun to do and fun to watch, but come on, lately it seems that it's the only thing testers and journos do with sporty cars...
As long as they don't do it when trying to set a representative lap time in a comparison test,...
ReplyDeleteA used 997 or an Exige+hot hatch over both please.
ReplyDeleteAt 0:43: "It's got a 3.4 litre straight six". ORLY?!
ReplyDeleteWhen a supposed journalist says that a Porsche BOXSTER has a straight six I immediately stop watching.
ReplyDeleteOmg, you are right, I just realized I paid zero attention to what that clown said! Face palm!
