Tin Top Attack.

Just because I've been on vacation it does not mean the rest of the Axis has been sleeping: check out the Freep's heroic climb from 17th on the grid to 5th place at the 2010 NASA Hyperfest SpecE30 races a held at Summit Point in West Virginia last week. Check out the near misses, notice how "the Freep don't lift" and don't miss the Felipe Massa style opportunistic pass towards the end of the clip!

Thirty seven minutes into the 40 minute, the Freep was attacking fourth place but a fuel pickup problem forced him to pull back and maintain 5th place. NIce driving.

UPDATE: added rear view cam after the jump...

  1. I hate drivers that cheat on starts.

  2. It's not cheating if your crew chief is calling the race on the radio and advises you that the green flag has flown.

  3. I didn't see where he cheated and I was there and watched this race.

  4. I think you rock it! My e30 is almost done and should be at lighting for aug! How did pete and justin do? I need some axis propaganda for the car.

  5. Typical cheater tactic on the start is to lay back getting a running start on the rest of the field. Starting 101. Would never pass muster in a regulated series.

  6. You mean any regulated series where restarts are allowed?... F1, NASCAR, WTCC, FIA GT.... what did you have in mind?

  7. Horsepucky. There was no running start. You clearly hear me drop the hammer in 2nd gear at the moment my crew chief tells me the green flag is already waving. Any space in front of my car was strictly a safety measure given the SpecE30 reputation for 1st-lap crashes (note the brake lights and swerving before the green). If anything, I disadvantaged myself for safety's sake.

  8. Better read up on your regs, hanging back for safety's sake is not an option. If your that worried, why not start from the pits?

  9. We must be reading different regs. But if I was told by the race director to start from the pits, I'd have no problem doing so.
