Make sure your wing is screwed on properly...

Just screwing a wing to the trunk lid of your STI and calling it a day can have unintended consequences especially when said STI is good for 150 mph (240 km/h) .

Luckily Element Tuning's cage was built properly and the driver walked away with just a dislocated thumb (notice the broken steering wheel.)

  1. Wow, that's pretty intense. Notice the driver tightened his belts just after shifting into 5th...close call on that one!

  2. Im going to call BS on this one. There is NO way a street car with some sicks and a cage in it is THAT aero dependent. Plus a corner like that isnt a "balls out" lift and turn the car as hard as you can to make the corner, its more of just "kink" then a corner anyway.

If you look, he starts spinning just as soon as his LF tire touches the inside curb, which changed the weight distribution, upset the suspension and caused the car to spin.

  3. I dunno, it looks like maybe he lifted. That plus missing downforce could do it.

  4. I had an 04 STi and that wing always looked like it was about to vibrate off of the trunklid!

  5. Oh nooess! I loved that car - some real nice engineering. Glad the driver is relatively unscathed.

Dibs on any undamaged parts :)

  6. There's a classic video of Petter Solberg jumping a 2005 or so WRC car that's suffered a rear wing failure and it really screws with the takeoff and landing.

If the drivers taken that turn at speed X before then when he arrives at it a lap later at the same speed he'll try to take it the same way only to find out he's not go nearly the same grip.

  7. If he saw shit falling off why didnt he back off?

  8. That car has to have around 550hp+ if with such a square shape can hit 148mph at that point. Its faster than my GT2...

  9. @ CG funny you should mention that because I had to go check your Cayman videos and I saw that you were at about 120 or so in that same spot. It's an INSANE speed differential!

  10. Yes, and in the GT2 I am at 135mph. I have to say that he is being over optimistic with the claimed speed.
Nevertheless that thing has 500hp or more...

  11. Just read that he can do 1:59s at VIR, so indeed the car has to have closer to 600hp.
You clearly need the Aero on that transition (its also a crest where the car goes light), but his inputs are VERY aggressive. Maybe it is the way you have to drive one of those things...

  12. Whatever the case, if he did not realize his wing had come off, at that speed, and I assume, a proper front splitter, it's no surprise the rear let go...

  13. It's not the stock STi wing, I believe he said it was an APR 300 or something that they had raised up higher for that day. The increased air flow the wing was seeing caused it to rip off. Read the thread on NASIOC for full details. If you have huge downforce in front and all of a sudden none in back, turning in means the rear is gonna go...

  14. my GT2 is so fast, nobody, i mean nobody, is faster. especially not a fully caged, big turbo subaru. or a vette, or a gtr...

  15. Dude, relax! We are just using the claimed speed to guess the power output of the car. In that section, its all flatout just before that first crest (with and without downforce). We know from REAL telemetry that a 300hp does 120mph, 530hp - 135mph, and if I remember correctly Mike Skeen in his TransAm car is just above 140mph at that point (same goes for the DP GrandAm cars).
Cup Car telemetry (mid 1:50s lap doesnt show more than 140mph), so to get to that claimed 148 the car needs at least 600hp+, which is posible in those haridryer blown engines.

..and be upfront and post with a name.

  16. That time attack car has a built engine and large rotated turbo setup. I'm sure it has at least 600hp.
