Grand Am Champions Farnbacher-Loles Shutting Down?

For years one of the world's leading sports car teams have been Connecticut based Porsche specialists Farnbacher-Loles. The team is apparently shutting it's doors on the heels of a Grand Am championship win in 2009 with Leh Keen and Dirk Warner. This is a big surprise especially after recent press releases about the team fielding BMW M3 for the 2010 season.

Rumors abound but facts are few. What have you heard?

  1. This may be information already answered elsewhere...but, does this affect the Grand Am BMW E92 program?

  2. well, I guess not as long as some other team picks up the cars... I mean the BMW gt4 is there for teams to buy from the factory... right?

  3. AC - I believe the M3 GT4 is a customer car and can be bought by teams. Either way, I hope that the FL team is still around for 2010 - could Rahal come in to run a Grand Am team as well as ALMS?

  7. Makes sense since there pricing was the highest in the country, service was poor, and they had no real talent for street car service. Yet again we see people claiming to be "the best and biggest" go down and hard. Too bad for the guys that have already given money for next years season (you can bet they will never see that money back. The best to them though :-)

  8. @ Anon. Is this from your direct experience? I would guess that street cars are/were at best just a side job for them but I'm surprised their service would be poor. Their facilities were always spotless.

  9. I've dealt with a good many different race shops in the past and Farnbacher was consistently one of the best. Yes, the prices were high, but what you got for your money was delivery of something better than you were expecting and you got in a reasonable amount of time. No, I won't say it was always "on time", but it was always a LOT closer than most other shops to "on time."
