The wooden plank on the underside is for aerodynamics and to prevent damage to the undercarriage when Alonso inevitably drives over top of competitors.
The wooden plank is actually required per FIA rules in order to manage ride height, and is not an aerodynamic device. The plank is checked after each race to ensure that no more than a mm (I believe) of the plank is worn down, if it does not meet this requirement the car is disqualified.
