Brilliant. Our Freep is a pilot and into all these RC contraption, I have to get him to get himself one of those! All you need is a Trex 700, a Canon DSLR and some a lot of skill...
I'm a sucker for a beautifully photographed clip like this one, by Remi Schouten from okidokyo.com. NIght drifting, some serious bbq, but mi favorite shot has to be the guy "picking up" his own front bumper cover at around :45 seconds. Have a look.
"November 13 and 14, another crazy drift matsuri took place at Ebisu Circuit in Japan. This drifting event is one-of-kind, pretty much anything is allowed, just use your head a little.
People buy special "drift missiles" (very cheap drift cars) not having to worry about damaging it. This makes this drift event so special and allows people to really go to the limit and a lot of times over the limit. This is the ultimate way to learn drifting.
The atmosphere at this event is just amazing, making it a very worth while event to visit even when not drifting.
This is my first time making a video with a DSLR (Canon 550D), still have to get the hang of manual focus, shutter-speed etc etc. But that's what makes it more fun!"
Uwe Nittel said his hands and feet were falling asleep at times during his five hours going around in circles.
Five hours? That's right, a first attempt ended just shy of the record when sensors failed on his Mitsubishi Evo X. Not one to be denied, Nittel jumped back into the car once it was fixed and went back out for the record on a new set of Kumhos. 45.63 km sideways later, Uwe did admit being a tad queasy but presumably, happy.
The record was achieved on an irrigated skid pad at the Sachsenring, Germany.
Actually, I liked the in-car shots there.... We were just discussing the "let go of the steering wheel" technique in a recent flurry of Axis emails about sliding.
OK, so perhaps this "awesome rally vidclip" thing has started something. Today's clip was sent in by a good friend of the Axis, we'll call him "Steve The Hurricane" (not related to The Stee). This Steve, like our own Adil, is a trained expert in the art of rally driving, having attended rally school in Ireland, among other venues. Ride with him in an autocross and you'll be impressed, but turn him loose (pun intended) on snow or dirt and he'll simply amaze you. Rumor has it that Steve is close to inking a deal for an xDrive sponsorship.
So let's get to the clip. Steve enjoyed our banter about Redefining Early Turn-in last week, so here is his contribution, but you must watch to the end to see the earliest of turn-ins. The clip is originally from www.gigigalli.com. So enjoy. And, if the embedded teaser clip isn't enough, you can get a whole 2:40min "best of" clip of Gigi's work here.
The ones who made it out alive must have became Stefan "Sideways" Roser....
One has to admire the advances in passive and active safety made in the last 30 or so years. Having said that, some of those beetles look pretty damn good in rollovers....unless the door opened and the driver fell out that is!
I also liked what looks to be an early attempt at the multiple BMW ring-taxi drifts as perfomed by gaggle of 2002's.
A word of explanation....It's winter here in the NorthEast...there are no track events, no autocross....so it's a frustrating time of year for the Axis. That's why I'm posting videos from other sources. But come spring, the production machine will get going again and we will post our own videos.
But no need to be bored right? So here is another Ferrari Enzo video from Italy. It's full hooligan driving mode on the Adria track near Venice. Tiff would be proud. The driver is good and has great car control skills on the track. The second half of the clip where he slides in the parking lot shows you why it's a good idea that the Enzo has available traction control!
Let's be honest, the chances of any of us going to for a ride on one of the 400 Ferrari Enzo's made are pretty slim... the chances of going for a ride on one at a track event....slimmer. The chances of getting driven around very fast, passing all kinds of other Ferrari 360 by a GIRL???..... the odds are astronomical! So enjoy this 5 minute clip from Italy, the track is Imola, where the San Marino GP is held. True Ferrari enthusiasts drive the "F" out of their cars not let then sit in the garage. Kudos!
