Stars in Reasonably Priced Cars

2 comments:
The non boring version....

From the 1983 BBC organized competition pitting road racers vs rally racers in equally awful Austin-Rover products. The competition consisted of a short rally stage in a Rover Vitesse and a road course race in MG Maestros. Actually a fun race between Nigel Mansell and John Watson. Makes you wonder why bother with pointless sleep stuff like the Race Of Champions...
(thank you @fast_russ)

The rally stage with the v8 Rovers is after the jump

A symphony in B

No comments:
The Axis featured a few mechanical symphonies before however this one comes to us via Axis reader Tom Schreuder from Eindhoven in the Netherlands.

We touched on the mythical group B cars before but these videos, as Tom points out, are especially cool as they are devoid of any of the usual lame techno or death metal music that tends to accompany similar montages. They are pure mechanical sound.... oh yeah and people's screams. Not having music somehow brings into sharper focus the collective insanity of rally spectators, essentially a mechanized and more dangerous version of the Pamplona running of the bulls, nuts.

All the Group B stars are in the video, the Audi Quattro, The Lancias 037 and Delta S4, the Renault 5 turbo, Peugeot 205t16, the Rover Metro 6R4 and the Ford RS200, even the Porsche 959 makes a brief appearance in act one.

Thanks Tom.

"Axis Celebrates insanity" week.... Part2: 27Liters of Fun

No comments:
OK, let's say you are bored and probably drunk yet you decide it would be cool to have a Veyron....but as I mentioned, you spent all your money on beer.
No problem, at least none for these English dudes when they decided to mate a 27 liter Rolls Royce Meteor tank engine to a craptastic 80's Rover!

OK, let's begin with the engine:

and the receptacle....

And while the builders show that they are on board with the whole alternative fuel thing by running the 27 liter monster on propane...

One has to wonder: when they say "mad dogs and Englishmen" they really just mean rednecks right?

The kicker is.....the car is ROAD LEGAL in the UK!!!! LOL!

That is insane...therefore it has redeeming value!
