Hey AC, that last photo is complete on purpose. I believe it was taken at Bryon Dragway during their annual wheelstand competition. They have some pretty crazy cars out there trying for it and some fail spectacularly, but it's all on purpose and in good fun! Here's a youtube link to highlights from last year's event.

The car doing one at about 2:15 is simply amazing. Have you read up on Top Fuel engines like the one exploding in the first picture (or at least it looks like one)? Those things are amazing pieces of engineering!
