Perkele! Audi fail tosses Heikki in the wall as an Ühr rolls

a suspension failure on the Auri R8 LMS tosses Heikki Kovalainen into the barrier injuring his passenger and almost into Seb Loeb at today's Race of Champions in Dusseldorf. (Perkele? check here)

Speaking of Audi fails, ROC founder Michelle Mouton got behind the wheel of a priceless original Uhr Quattro and rolled it. Tough car, window did not even crack. Finally some excitement at the ROC!

More ROC videos after the jump.

The Champ vs the Gramps

The surprise winner was Felipe Albuquerque...who? I guess just like a few years ago, Heikki who?

  1. Schumacher's reaction shot on the Mouton roll over was priceless.

Is it just me, or does he seem to be smiling more and more these days (in spite of his less than graceful comeback)?

  2. Wow, it only took Jalopnik 11 minutes to copy the post this time.... :)

  3. @Tony, I think MS is having a ball... good for him. maybe he really feels he has nothing to prove, just doing what he loves.

  4. The suspension appears to fail after Kovalainen hit the outside wall.

  5. Wow, hopefully the person in black who got hit by Heikki's debris was OK too, he/she seemed to be getting out of the way and then got dragged down by it.

  6. I often wonder how a SOLO autocross champion would do in one of these events. It would be great to get a benchmark time of say a Junior Johnson against the best drivers in the world

  7. Any idea who loaned the Audi Quattro? That'd almost like rolling a BMW M1 or CSL - ouch. At least the wing is durable!

  8. @Murph I'm guessing, Audi. I saw one of those cars years ago in the Audi shop in Paris, it actually looked pretty rough up close...as you'd imagine it would :)

  9. I figured it was probably from their classic collection - but still, very rare car to be damaging! Nice to hear Audi leaves them in racing condition - I saw a Martini Rossi 917k earlier this year that looked the same and the amount of character those cars ooze is incredible!

  10. "That'll buff right out!" :)

Actually in this case, it's not even a joke as the car barely looks scratched, as you would expect from a WRC car (even an old one): it should be VERY solid given the potential for some serious hits in case of a crash in a rally.

I also really like the way you can see the suspension work on those KTMs, really cool cars...
