There is this blog I look at where they post iconic pictures of icons, no comment needed, just cool. If there ever was an Axis version of The Impossible Cool, this video would be it.
It has been around a while so you may have seen it, no matter, and clip that starts off with, "...and by the way, that's me driving my GTO" is worth a second look. And does it really get any better than painting a 250 California like an Army Jeep before driving it to a Ferrari owner's club meeting?
Late 60's California cool, than a bunch of kids ripping their GTOs in the canyons, treating them like they were meant to be treated or as narrator Stephen Mitchell says "having fun and the cars doing what they were intended to do which is to cause problems for other people".
Impossibly Cool.
Winners, Axis Historic Tracktard Award,
Can someone explain to me how a 19 yr old can afford to hoon around in a Ferrari 250 GTO?? lol
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame Ralph Lauren removed The Le Mans racing lights.
Great post, it's impossible cool indeed.
You know, at the time, they were just old, non competitive race cars, they were not super cheap but I think you could buy them for thousands of dollars... I'm guessing the guy who traded one for a Ghibli has some regrets though :)
ReplyDeletethey were young hollywood actor types, if i'm not mistaken.
ReplyDeleteYeah that Ghibli is a mistake :) Its like having beer goggles at a bar and its the last call.
ReplyDeleteWatching videos like makes me think I was born too late. That era was definitely the golden age of sports cars and sports car racing.
I'd say it was the golden age of human existence.
ReplyDeleteThose were the days!
