"The talk of the GTS3 crowd at Pocono this past weekend: part because this epic baller has a brand new M3 built by Turner for GTS, part because no one could find the dip stick ;)"
I was scratching my head wondering how that car makes the pwr / wgt ratio for GTS3 .. there is a write up somewhere about all the weight that Turner took out if + the bump they gave the motor. I was thinking I could be competitive in GTS3 w/the E36 + some cams and bolt ons, may have to revisit that idea. Either way the cars is awesome in person. Did anyone notice the C6 R "skull" emblem is the graphic on the qtr panel? - Fukes (I know, stop using anonymous)
Quote from the above youtube video: "This M3 is FAR lighter than a standard "street" E92 M3, and benefits from added horsepower and torque over stock."
I believe stock E90s are dynoing at ~350whp, so if we use that figure to calculate GTS3 minimum weight we are at 3850 lbs with driver. Now stock E90s are in the 3650 lbs range, so this may be possible with a 200 lbs driver. But if the above quote is correct (and judging by the tons of pictures it looks like that car lost A LOT of weight), then there is no way this car is legal for GTS3.
That begs the next question: Why would did this guy register in GTS3?
As a rookie I will give him the benefit of the doubt that he just didn't know.
My next question is, where is his dyno sheet (required to run in GTS) and why didn't they weigh him in at the track?
Next time I expect to see him in GTS4 or possibly even GTS5 (depending on how much weight was lost on the Turner Diet and how much power they added).
Come to think of it, the last NASA NE event I went to also did not have scales setup.
Since every race class that I can think of has some sort of minimum weight requirement, I would think having scales setup at every race event would be a priority...
1. i guess the 'vette guys read axis, cause they scored the same photo (that a friend of mine took) and used the 'baller' term. 2. i remember that car as a street car.
*note-if the vette guys read this, this m3 guy is not a part of the axis crew. he does own a c6 zr1 but i odn't know why he didn't sticker that car.

Welcome to modern BMW's! I'm having a hard time getting accustomed to M cars built after about 2007
ReplyDeletewell, Stee told me for the e92 to be GTS3 legal it it would have to weigh something over 3800lbs w/driver...
ReplyDeleteIn that case, screw dieting and exercise, I'll just use the scale this guy used!
ReplyDeleteFukes
if it puts out 350 at the wheels it needs to weigh a minimum of 3850lbs...
ReplyDeletewhat's with the bad boy vette's logo on a BMW?
ReplyDeleteShit if they were going to copy the logo at least change the "eyes" portion of it so its at least doesn't resemble the corvette logo...
actually spoke too soon it made their site:

Why the hell would they put corvette Jake on a M3?
ReplyDeletethey should have opted for "Special Jake"
ReplyDeleteSpecial Jake
"Special Jake" Will be out for display at LRP in a few weeks....
ReplyDeleteWTF!?!
ReplyDeleteJust FYI, Turner Motorsport did not sticker that car. When it left their shop it looked like this...

ReplyDeleteLast NASA NorthEast event i went to, had no scale set up. This will, and i guess already started a problem...
