The Doctor and the T.T.

The Tourist Trophy is taking place this week and Valentino Rossi made an appearance on the Isle of Man with Giacomo Agostini to take in the scene, wave at the crowds and, probably, sell a few Yamahas.

A 34 mile lap makes the Nürburgring seem like a go kart track. That there are people willing to ride at speed on a track where the guard rails are made of trees, rocks and cattle wire is something I will never understand but will always be in awe of.

And here is the rest of it.

  1. To paraphrase Hemingway: The TT, Dakar and Bullfighting are the only sports, all other are games.

On secong thought, I'd also include those guys that sail solo around the south pole and those climb the highest peaks in the world, but really, those TT guys are mental!

  3. Having been to the isle of man a few times and driven the course in a car during peak traffic times, the times these guys are circulating at (33odd miles in 18mins) is amazing. The on bike camera shots are brutal.

  5. I think Hemingway said mountaineering, motor racing and bullfighting. Anyway the TT should be on the list.

Lovely edit! The opening slow motion shot is great.
