And now EVO, the GT-R vs GT3 test.

All good things come in threes so, after Autocar and CAR magazines,  here is EVO's take on the same story.    Their GT-R is black,  maybe the same Autocar used,  makes you wonder why CAR magazine was not able to get a tester from Nissan.

Anyway, there are two things I found most impressive about the GT-R in this video, the first that it's claimed it brakes as well as the GT3, this despite weighing almost 700 lbs more.

The second is how the car stays composed despite the jerky inputs of the driver on the last two turns.  If it's the same driver using the same technique in the GT3, it is no surprise the car comes out of the last turn with at least 60 degrees of yaw angle and smoking the tires...
Makes you wonder if the GT-R comes with a "reset" button!

  2. The Stuttgart stuffer strikes again but you'll still say it's too heavy or the tyres weren't warm on the Porker...

  4. Hmm, I suspect anytime you see a 911 leaving that much smoke on track-out you can assume the driver has made a massive error.

    With all the mentions of the GT-R's paddleshifters I wonder how the game will change if/when Porsche equips the GT3 with same?

    Oh, and Dear Anonymous... of course we at Axis are loyal to what we know, but we also realize good rivalries are the very core of the auto business (and the auto enthusiast business). Enjoy.

  5. now, you cant claim that wasn't a fair test!! Dick Maeden is avery decent driver and these guys know that track better than Tiff. Also, it is clearly a handling track that doesn't favor HP only (Just check the great lap times by Lotus' best, and also that the Quattroporte laps it faster than an M5, being heavier and 100hp down)

    I love Porkers and think they are the best car brand on planet earth, but indeed the GTR is an amazing machine and it should be praised for it. All that tech, performance and driving appeal at a great value.

    Z06 can't be comparable here is a different breed of car. The real potential buyer universe of a porker or GTR barely intersects the universe o willing Z06 buyers... It's like paring the E92 M3 against the Mustang Cobra....(irrespective of whether some like could claim the M3 is the 21st century ponycar for its unparallel ability to burn rubber and go sideways everywhere with ease)

    The big triumph of the GTR is that is the first long awaited newcomer that not only delivers on its paper stats (as most newcomers do) but in reality holds its own against Porsche's best on track. Check your inventory of magazines... that really hasn't happened much since the NSX. On top of that, factor in the price and you clearly have to understand why all the big fuzz...

    It's now difficult to justify having a Gallardo as the dream winter car, when you can get this thing for 1/3 of the price and get equal performance and driving experience.

That the GT-R can hang with the Porsches is as you say already a great accomplishment, but let's look at that lap for a sec: The two cars are dead even up until the second chicane where the GT3 driver blows it completely on entry with subsequent penalty on the next straight. The spit remains the same up until the last turn where the Porsche loses more ground by going through the turn with 45 degrees of drift....

    The GT-R is quick but the GT3 could have easily have been much quicker if driven better.

  7. I don't think it's a fair comparision. The GT-R is a standard, full-luxury equipped model, but it's set up against the souped-up trackday GT3-version of the 911. Wouldn´t a standard Carrera be a more suitable benchmark?
    A lightweight, more focused version of the GT-R would certainly make things interesting, maybe even for the GT2?

  9. CG- the Bowling Green Bomber (ZO6) is made from a bespoke aluminum frame with magnesium and composite substructures under carbon-fiber skins. It has a dry-sump racing engine and nobody disputes that leaf springs work perfectly. Tiff Needell says the ZO6 "shows the Europeans how it should be done" and its performance is in the same league as the GT-R and GT3. So aside from being assembled in middle-America, exactly what do you think puts it on the same playing field as a Mustang Cobra?
