Red Bull Busted....but.


Vettel and Ricciardo will have to start from the back after Red Bull had their qualifying results wiped for having a front wing that did not pass the FIA deflection test.

The team issued a statement to the effect that they accept the penalty but wonder why them.
Following the decision of the Stewards regarding the front wings on both our cars (Car 1 and Car 3), we are disappointed that we have been singled out for a front wing deflection test when it is clear that other teams are interpreting the rules in a similar fashion. 
The team accepts the decision of the Stewards and will start the race from the back of the grid
You'll understand where Red Bull is coming from when you see this clip of the Williams front wing from FP2.

Have a look at the double element visible between the bottom plank and the top left higher winglets.  It flexes multiple inches under load.

Not being funny every f1 team is fighting from one to 22 as you can tell from the back markers going under and the merc domanating at the front rules are there to be bent and twisted in to one person intutation, if I say a front wing can not bend someone else we'll say "well flexing is a different action than bending and is not illegal" same as last year and the year before with the exhausts more and more body work was placed around the exhaust exit to they can change the

  2. direction of it to improve downforce at the rear so the fia said it can not be incased I believe so what did the teams to leave a slit down the body work so it was not in cased/closed it was still "open" the fia need to sit back and really have a look lately the work there doing is shocking would be better if tearing up the rule book and staring again, who nose were the formula would go sure as hell won't be an engine one

  3. first of all redbull can protest if they want to, fact is they got caught cheating and its laughable that a pro team can put out statements like that. Second, the video of williams doesn't prove anything, all wings flex under load, there are limits on how much they can flex in regulations, and redbull failed the flex tests, no body knows if williams was passed those or not. Adam cooper reported that FIA did test 2 other teams.

  4. Not really appropriate to compare this event with the previous flexible wing saga. Apparently what they found was a spring in the adjustment mechanism that they use to adjust the elements during a pit stop. In effect there was a mechanical device not a flexible body part.
